ImmersionRC Ghost 2.4GHz long-range LoRa based radio system was announced a year ago and is available on the market for only a little shorter. In this time, ImmersionRC put quite an of effort into making it better, but for unknown reasons always ignored one very important aspect of a long-range radio control link: telemetry!

OpenTX with IRC Ghost Telemetry

OK, the basic battery telemetry appearing in Ghost some time ago, but that’s, let’s be honest here, is not very impressive. Tony Cake promised GPS coordinates some time ago it really, really, really, had a very low priority and had us waiting for a long time.

Luckily, waiting is over, and the latest release of the Ghost firmware offers the following telemetry sensors:

  • Latitude
  • Longitude
  • Altitude
  • Ground Speed
  • Ground Course
  • Number of tracked satellites
  • Distance To Home
  • Direction To Home
  • GPS Fix status

To be able to use the Ghost GPS telemetry you will require the latest firmware versions

  • Ghost firmware 1.0.4.2 or later
  • INAV 3.0.1 or later
  • Betaflight 4.3 - bear in mind, there are no stable build of Betaflight 4.3 yet
  • Latest OpenTX, 2.3.12 or later

Finally, GPS telemetry works only, and only if GHST protocol is used. It will not work with SBUS or SRXL-2 protocol.
